Indian Foreign Secretary Misri meets with Nepal's Deputy PM to discuss urban development

KATHMANDU: Indian Foreign Secretary Bikram Misri, currently on a two-day visit to Nepal, met with Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Urban Development Prakash Man Singh on Monday morning. During this courtesy call at the Ministry of Urban Development, Misri congratulated Singh and wished him success in his role.


The meeting's main topics of discussion were possible areas of collaboration between India and Nepal, especially in the fields of waste management, river cleaning, and urban development. Deputy Prime Minister Singh emphasized the advantages of the Swachh Bharat Mission in India and the knowledge gained from cleaning the Ganges River for Nepal. To solve the transportation issues, he also asked India for help in building suspension bridges across the Mahakali River.


Secretary Misri responded positively to the discussions and emphasized India's support for Nepal's peace, stability, and prosperity. The conversation also included exploring cooperation on urban development issues, such as removing tuins (improvised cable crossings) and simplifying the consent process for cross-border infrastructure projects.
