KATHMANDU: The CPN (Unified Socialist) has directed its lawmakers to vote against Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli’s confidence motion, as announced by party leader Metmani Chaudhary. Prime Minister Oli, who was recently appointed, is required by the Constitution of Nepal to secure a vote of confidence within 30 days of his appointment. The vote is scheduled to take place today.
To win the confidence vote, PM Oli needs the support of 138 out of the 275 members in the House of Representatives. With backing from the Nepali Congress, UML, Janata Samajbadi Party (JSP), and Loktantrik Samajbadi Party (LSP), PM Oli is poised to secure the necessary majority. He currently has the support of 177 lawmakers, including 88 from the Nepali Congress, 78 from the UML, seven from the JSP, and four from the LSP.
Additionally, three other parties that have not yet joined the government have pledged their support to PM Oli. These parties are the Janamat Party with six lawmakers, JSP Nepal with five, and the Nagarik Unmukti Party with four lawmakers.
