KATHMANDU: The CPN (Unified Socialist) has selected its central committee members, over two months after the party's general convention. Although prominent politician Jhalanath Khanal was among the original 93 members of the central committee, Madhav Kumar Nepal was elected Chairman and Ghanshyam Bhusal General Secretary during the convention.

On Sunday, the party swore in 251 new members, expanding the central committee to a total of 344 members. This increase was made to accommodate all the aspirants, surpassing the statutory limit of 299 central committee members.

299 members of the central committee and 21 office bearers are permitted per the party's statute. A wider range of party members are being included in the decision-making process, as seen by the decision to raise the number of central committee members to 344.
