KATHMANDU: The CPN-UML is poised to withdraw its support for the administration following a decision taken at its secretariat meeting on Tuesday night. The assembly asked that Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal "Prachanda", resign by the end of the day. Dahal has rejected this request. Consequently, the UML is now getting ready to stop supporting.

The Chief Whip of the UML, Mahesh Bartaula, said that the Prime Minister should step down and work with the two major parties in Parliament, the NC and UML, as they decide to go together. Bartaula emphasized that Dahal's coalition lacks sufficient parliamentary numbers to effectively govern. He added that if Dahal opts not to resign, the UML will proceed with withdrawing its support later today, which will involve the resignation of UML ministers.

The final decision on withdrawing support and the subsequent resignation of UML ministers is expected to be taken after 3 PM today. Earlier this week, the Nepali Congress (NC) and CPN-UML reached an agreement to collaborate on forming a new government, with UML Chairman KP Oli slated to assume the role of Prime Minister first under the terms of their arrangement.
