KATHMANDU: Chief Minister Shalikram Jamkattel of Bagmati Province is set to request a vote of confidence from the Province Assembly on July 21. He has formally written to the Province Assembly Secretariat, seeking the assembly's support through a vote of confidence.

According to Ratna Prasad Dhakal, the chief whip of CPN (Maoist Centre) in the Bagmati Province Assembly, Chief Minister Jamkattel decided on this course of action following discussions with leaders of the ruling parties. The decision comes in response to the province government's minority status after five ministers from CPN (UML) resigned on July 8, coinciding with changes in the federal government.

Speaker Bhuwan Kumar Pathak has confirmed preparations for a Province Assembly meeting scheduled at 1:00 pm on July 21 to facilitate the vote of confidence process. Jamkattel, who leads CPN (Maoist Centre), assumed office as Chief Minister with support from CPN (UML), Rastriya Prajatantra Party, and CPN (Unified Socialist).
