KATHMANDU: Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal 'Prachanda' urged the private sector to invest confidently in Nepal's hydropower sector, citing a recent agreement with India to export 10,000 megawatts of power from Nepal over the next decade. Speaking at the 22nd annual general assembly of the Independent Power Producers' Association, Nepal (IPPAN), the Prime Minister hailed this agreement as a significant milestone towards the country's journey to prosperity.
Highlighting the signed long-term agreement with India for the export of 10,000 megawatts of electricity, Prime Minister Prachanda emphasized the historic significance of this achievement. He also mentioned plans for power trade with Bangladesh through India's transmission line, underscoring the strategic opportunities emerging during his premiership.
The Prime Minister expressed optimism about reaching a similar agreement with Bangladesh soon to export Nepal's electricity, further enhancing regional energy cooperation. Additionally, he outlined the government's efforts to boost power consumption domestically, including the promotion of electric vehicles and appliances to reduce reliance on imported petroleum products.
Asserting the pivotal role of the electricity sector in Nepal's development and prosperity, Prime Minister Prachanda commended the private sector's contribution to scaling up power production. He underscored the government's commitment to fostering an environment conducive to increased investment and innovation in the energy sector, aiming to propel the nation towards sustainable growth and self-reliance.
