KATHMANDU: A fresh faction, headed by Dr. Mahendra Lawoti and Khagendra Makhim, has emerged within the Janata Samajwadi Party-Nepal (JSP-Nepal), marking a division within the party.
This new faction, led by Lawoti and Makhim, has chosen to maintain a neutral position distinct from the existing factions led by Upendra Yadav and Ashok Rai within the party.
Notably, this neutral stance extends to leaders from Limbuwan who had previously affiliated with the JSP. Moreover, it includes members who had defected from the CPN-UML under the leadership of Ashok Rai.
The newly formed faction, represented by Khagendra Makhim and Lawoti, along with Saru Singhak, actively backed an independent candidate during the recent Ilam by-election.
Following this split within the JSP, parliamentary seats have been redistributed, with seven members aligning with Ashok Rai's faction and five supporting Upendra Yadav's group.
