KATHMANDU: The government of Nepal has formally asked Oman to think about opening an embassy in Kathmandu. Foreign Secretary Sewa Lamsal made this proposal on Wednesday during a meeting with top Omani officials. The conference took place as a part of the inaugural Nepal-Oman Bilateral Consultation Mechanism, which took place in Muscat.

Foreign Secretary Lamsal stressed the value of stepping up cooperation in fields of shared interest. The group examined the two countries' bilateral ties, highlighting the improvement in those ties since they were established in 1977. They talked about many other areas of cooperation, such as trade, investment, economic cooperation, high-level visits, and many more.

It was decided by both parties to strengthen their alliance and look into business ventures that would benefit both parties. They pledged to encourage interpersonal interactions and advance collaboration in fields such as direct air connectivity, labor, culture, education, tourism, energy, and agriculture. Lamsal called for more possibilities in line with Oman's Vision 2040 and emphasized the substantial employment opportunities Omani enterprises had given to Nepalis.

Sheikh Khalifa bin Ali bin Issa Alharthy, the undersecretary, stated that he was willing to increase collaboration and complete outstanding Memoranda of Understanding (MOUs). He praised the beneficial contributions made by Nepali laborers and underlined the possibility of further development of bilateral ties. Both parties committed to continuing frequent high-level contacts and working together in a number of international institutions, such as the UN.

Foreign Secretary Lamsal also met with Dr. Mahad bin Said bin Ali Baowain, Oman's Minister for Labor, to discuss potential cooperation in labor and human resource exchange. The Nepal-Oman Bilateral Consultations Mechanism, established in 2017, will hold its next meeting in Kathmandu at a mutually convenient time to continue advancing their cooperative efforts.
