KAHTMANDU: Nepali Congress (NC) has agreed to refrain from calling for the resignation of Home Minister Rabi Lamichhane as a parliamentary probe committee is set to be established. This decision follows an agreement between the ruling party and the opposition, including leaders from the Maoist Center and CPN-UML parties, who claim that the committee will be formed.
The possibility of a parliamentary probe into the actions of the Home Minister, initially prompted by Nepali Congress, appears increasingly likely. After Home Minister Lamichhane addressed the Parliament, UML leaders indicated that both Nepali Congress and the Rastriya Prajatantra Party have also agreed to the formation of a probe committee.
According to parliamentarians from the CPN-Maoist Center, a consensus has been reached post-committee formation, wherein Nepali Congress has assured that they will not push for the Home Minister’s resignation. Discussions are expected to follow speeches by the Home Minister, Nepali Congress, and other leaders before the committee is officially established.
Meanwhile, UML whip Mahesh Bartaula stated that the parliament will reconvene after 4 o’clock. Nepali Congress Chief Whip Ramesh Lekhak affirmed that demands for resignation will cease once the probe committee is formed, emphasizing that their initial call for resignation was aimed at initiating the establishment of a probe committee.
