Indian PM Narendra Modi to visit Ukraine

The Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is due to meet with the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Friday. A month before Modi met Putin again, Zelenskyy had criticized a Russian missile attack that took place during Modi's visit to Moscow, causing multiple casualties and damage to a children's hospital. Zelenskyy called the move a "devastating blow to peace attempts."

Zelenskyy has stated that Modi's first visit to Ukraine is likely to involve the signing of several documents. The Modi government has mostly abstained from denouncing Russia's entry into Ukraine in favor of pushing for diplomatic negotiations as a means of putting a stop to the fighting. Despite the fact that Russia has become one of India's main energy suppliers as a result of Western sanctions against the country, India and Russia have maintained their cordial relations.

India has profited financially from buying cheap Russian oil, which has helped Russia's weapons industry. At least five Indian residents who had volunteered for support duties in Russia and were deployed to the front lines in Ukraine have also died. Russia has been urged to return these citizens by India. India, meantime, has made the decision to disregard the sanctions imposed by the UN on Russia.
