Bus accident in central Iran kills 28 Pakistani pilgrims on way to Shiite ritual in Iraq

Tuesday night in the central Iranian province of Yazd, a bus carrying fifty-one pilgrims from Pakistan overturned and caught fire, causing a tragic incident. In advance of the Arbaeen festival, a significant Shiite Muslim feast that falls on the 40th day of Imam Hussein's mourning, the bus was heading to Iraq. State media said that the incident had led to at least 28 deaths and 23 injuries, some of which were critical.


According to the head of crisis management for Yazd province, six of the 23 injured have already left the hospital, but the situations of the other seven are very serious. Eleven ladies and seventeen males made up the deceased. As more details come to light and the conditions of those injured are ascertained, the number of fatalities may increase.
