KATHMANDU: The Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) finished the trading day at 2,749.57 points on Thursday after declining 36.83 points, or 1.32%. In addition, the daily turnover decreased dramatically to Rs 12 billion from Rs 13.7 billion on Wednesday, with 28,346,246 shares of 322 companies exchanged in 146,204 transactions.
The market showed broad-based declines, with 188 companies' share prices falling and only 53 companies experiencing gains. The Sensitive Index, which tracks class 'A' stocks, and the Float Index, measures actively traded shares, both decreased by 1.67% and 1.39%, respectively.
Sector performance was mostly negative, with the Mutual Fund sector being the sole exception, which gained 0.10%. The Life Insurance sector saw the largest loss at 2.09%, followed by the Microfinance sector, down 2.01%. The Banking and Hotels and Tourism sectors each fell by 1.81%, while the Development Bank and Finance sectors declined by 1.12% and 0.94%, respectively.
Notable individual stock movements included a sharp 10% decline in the share value of Three Star Hydropower Limited (TSHL), while Kutheli Bukhari Small Hydropower Limited (KBSH) gained 10%. The total market capitalization at the close of the day was Rs 4.366 trillion.
