KATHMANDU: In an endeavor to address the misuse of hospital admissions to evade custody, the Home Ministry, under the leadership of Home Minister Rabi Lamichhane, has issued comprehensive guidelines. These directives aim to prevent individuals from exploiting medical assistance as a means to secure admission to a hospital following their arrest.
Outlined by the Ministry, the guidelines specify that hospital admission will only be authorized if the individual is genuinely physically or mentally unwell or suffers from a chronic medical condition necessitating treatment, such as high blood pressure or diabetes. The determination of the necessity for hospital treatment will be entrusted to qualified medical professionals registered either with a government hospital or the Nepal Medical Council.
Moreover, individuals seeking admission for a duration exceeding 48 hours will be required to provide a valid justification for their extended stay. These measures are designed to ensure that hospital admissions are based solely on genuine medical needs, thus preventing their exploitation as a means to evade lawful custody.
