Bagmati Province reports 38.92% budget expenditures in current fiscal year

KATHMANDU: As of the current fiscal year 2080-81 BS (2023-24), the Bagmati Province government has reported a budget expenditure of 38.92 percent. However, the government's spending in the final stages of the fiscal year has been relatively low. According to the Province Treasury Comptroller Office in Hetauda, the government has spent a total of 24 billion 407 million rupees over the past 10 months.

Of this expenditure, approximately 11 billion 415 million rupees has been allocated towards current expenses, while around 12 billion 992 million rupees has been directed towards capital expenses, as confirmed by Office Chief Hari Prasad Upadhayay. The highest portion of spending has been dedicated to physical infrastructure development, totaling 8 billion 698 million rupees. Following closely behind are investments in drinking water, energy, and irrigation sectors, amounting to two billion 860 million rupees, with the Social Development Ministry accounting for one billion 860 million rupees.

Additionally, expenditures for various ministries and government offices have been outlined. The Forest and Environment Ministry has spent one billion 230 million rupees, while the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock has spent 810 million rupees. The Ministry of Tourism, Industry, and Cooperatives has utilized 633 million rupees, whereas the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Law, the Office of the Chief Minister and the Council of Ministers, and the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Planning have spent 196 million, 174 million, and 95 million rupees respectively. Furthermore, the Province Assembly Secretariat has expended 145 million rupees during this period.

In terms of budget allocation, the province government has designated 26 billion 421 million rupees for current expenditure, 35 billion 787 million rupees for capital expenditure, and 500 million rupees for financial management in the current fiscal year.
