1 dead, 8 injured in bus and pickup truck collision in Kapilvastu

KATHMANDU: A tragic accident occurred in Kapilvastu on Tuesday, resulting in one fatality and eight injuries following a collision between a bus and a pickup truck near the Jhadulamai temple in Budhabhumi Municipality-4 along the East-West Highway.

The District Police Office in Kapilvastu reported that the incident transpired around 5:15 AM when a passenger bus traveling from Kathmandu to Surkhet (bearing registration Karnali Pra 02-001 Kha 0525) collided with a pickup truck (registered as Lumbini 1 Cha 9284) coming from the opposite direction.

Mahesh Bikram Shahi, a police inspector at the District Police Office, Kapilvastu, identified the deceased as Hiralal Badhai, the driver of the pickup truck and a resident of Shivaraj Municipality in Kapilvastu. Tragically, Badhai was trapped inside the truck after the collision and was rescued after two hours. 

Shahi further disclosed that eight other individuals sustained injuries in the accident. The injured were promptly transported to Butwal for medical treatment, as reported by the police. The incident underscores the importance of road safety measures and vigilance while traveling along major highways.
