KATHMANDU: The Rasuwa customs office has collected, in the period of the past 11 months of this current fiscal year, a whopping amount of Rs 585.5 million as fines from traders who were found attempting to evade customs duties through the underreporting of the number of goods imported from China. Chief Customs Officer Ram Prasad Pathak revealed that this amount has been paid, pointing to unrelenting efforts taken to fight fraudulent trade practices.
Rasuwa customs office oversaw imports from China amounting to Rs. 59.787 billion and exports to China amounting to Rs. 1.847 billion for the Fiscal Year 2023/24 during the period from July 17, 2023, to June 14, 2024. This underlined the significance of the two countries in trade relations facilitated by this customs office.
He also mentioned a considerable increase in the collection of revenue, adding that the customs office had performed an extraordinary task by crossing its yearly revenue target. According to the details, in this period, Rs 19.172 billion was collected, which is 165 percent higher than the required targets. These distinctions are for proper governance and enforcement tactics taken by the customs authorities to maintain fair trade practices and compliance with customs regulations.
