KATHMANDU: Even though the rebuilding of Dharahara is still not complete, the government is getting ready to release the area to the public. Even though construction is still ongoing, special arrangements are being made to allow public access to the landmark shortly, as revealed on Wednesday by Prakash Man Singh, the Minister for Urban Development and Deputy Prime Minister.
Baisakh 21, 2072 BS saw a powerful earthquake that completely demolished Dharahara, a famous building in Kathmandu. On Baisakh 11, 2078 BS, then-Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli was inaugurated as a result of reconstruction efforts. Since the building was not yet finished, there were some who objected to the early inauguration.
Now, three years after that inauguration, the government under Prime Minister Oli is preparing to open Dharahara to the public once again, despite the ongoing work on the site.
