2 sisters die of asphyxiation in Jumla after smoke inhalation

KATHMANDU: Two individuals tragically died of asphyxiation in Patarasi Rural Municipality, Jumla district, on Tuesday. Twenty-two-year-old Maya Laxmi Mahatara and her 19-year-old sister, Junmaya Rokaya, passed away while receiving treatment at the Karnali College of Health Sciences.


The sisters were discovered unconscious at their home by relatives and were promptly taken to the hospital on Monday morning. The suffocation occurred due to smoke inhalation from a fire used to heat fenugreek oil for Mahatara and her 11-day-old baby, according to police reports.


Deputy Superintendent of Police Chhedilal Kamati stated that the victims were suffocated by smoke from the fire. Maya Laxmi Mahatara died on Monday, and Junmaya Rokaya succumbed to the effects of the smoke on Tuesday morning.


The infant involved is currently receiving treatment in the intensive care unit of the same hospital, as reported by police.
