KATHMANDU: A meeting of prominent political figures, including Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda, convened at Singha Durbar in response to Speaker Devraj Ghimire's summons.

Key leaders from major political parties, including Prime Minister Dahal, Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba, CPN-UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli, Rastriya Swatantra Party Chairman Rabi Lamichhane, and Rastriya Prajatantra Party Chairman Rajendra Lingden, are engaged in discussions at the Speaker's office.

Also present are chief whips from Nepali Congress, CPN-UML, CPN-Maoist Center, and the RSP, indicating the significance of the gathering in addressing the ongoing political impasse.

The meeting was called following disruptions caused by Nepali Congress in the previous session, particularly regarding the formation of a parliamentary inquiry committee to investigate Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Rabi Lamichhane's alleged involvement, prompting Speaker Ghimire's intervention.

Despite efforts to reach consensus, discussions remained inconclusive, prompting additional dialogues with chief whips and whips to address cooperation and operational issues raised during the session. With the upcoming parliamentary session on the horizon and budget preparations underway, the Speaker has also engaged with committee chairpersons and whips to ensure the efficiency of parliamentary proceedings. Throughout his tenure, Speaker Ghimire has organized nine such gatherings of top leaders in pursuit of consensus.
