KATHMANDU: Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal 'Prachanda' pushed forward with a vote of confidence in the House of Representatives today, amidst resistance from the Nepali Congress. Despite initial obstruction by the main opposition party, the House meeting eventually commenced after a short adjournment.
Nepali Congress lawmakers vehemently protested during the session, demanding the formation of a parliamentary probe committee to investigate allegations of cooperative fraudulence involving Home Minister Rabi Lamichhane.
Prior to this session, Speaker Devraj Ghimire had urged opposition parties, including the Nepali Congress, to refrain from obstructing parliamentary proceedings. In a Business Advisory Committee meeting held on Monday morning, Speaker Ghimire specifically appealed for smooth continuation of proceedings, especially as Prime Minister Prachanda was scheduled to seek a vote of confidence.
Despite these appeals, the Nepali Congress persisted with their obstruction, leading to the eventual adjournment of the House session. The political tension surrounding the vote of confidence underscores the ongoing challenges within Nepal's parliamentary landscape.
