KATHMANDU: Daman Bahadur Bhandari, who emerged victorious in the recent by-election held in Bajhang-1 constituency of Sudurpaschim Province, was sworn in as a member of the provincial assembly on Thursday. The oath of office and secrecy was administered by Speaker Bhim Bhandari, marking the official commencement of Bhandari's tenure as a provincial lawmaker. The by-election was necessitated by the passing of Nepali Congress legislator Prithvi Bahadur Singh on Ashar 5, 2080 BS.
Representing the CPN-UML, Daman Bahadur Bhandari secured victory in the by-election by garnering 11,612 votes, defeating his closest rival Abhishek Singh, the son of the late lawmaker Prithvi Bahadur Singh. Bhandari's election victory bolsters the CPN-UML's presence in the Sudurpaschim Provincial Assembly, with the party now holding a total of 11 seats following his induction.
With Bhandari taking on his new role as a provincial lawmaker, he adds to the political landscape of Sudurpaschim Province, representing the constituency of Bajhang-1. His swearing-in ceremony underscores the democratic process at work, as he steps into his duties as a representative of the people in the provincial assembly.
