KATHMANDU: The main opposition party, Nepali Congress (NC), has made the decision to allow Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Rabi Lamichhane to address Parliament. This decision was reached during the NC's Parliamentary Party meeting convened on Friday morning. Lamichhane will have the opportunity to speak during the upcoming budget session, which begins today.
In the previous session, the Nepali Congress had protested in Parliament, calling for the establishment of a parliamentary committee to investigate Lamichhane's alleged involvement in misusing cooperative funds. Despite these concerns, the decision to allow Lamichhane to address Parliament signals a willingness to engage in dialogue and parliamentary proceedings.
The annual budget session of both the House of Representatives (HoR) and the National Assembly (NA) is set to commence today. President Ram Chandra Paudel summoned the joint session of the federal parliament on May 2, following the recommendation of the Council of Ministers, in accordance with Article 93(1) of the Constitution of Nepal.
All Members of Parliament (MPs) have been notified by the Federal Parliament Secretariat to convene at 2 pm today at the Parliament Building in New Baneswor. This marks the beginning of what is expected to be a crucial session, where important legislative matters, including the budget, will be discussed and deliberated upon.
