KATHMANDU: To address the increased financial demands resulting from the by-elections held in Ilam and Bajhang on April 27, the Ministry of Finance has released an additional 10 million rupees. This supplementary allocation aims to cover the expenses incurred by the Election Commission during these electoral processes, surpassing the regular budgetary provisions.
Recognizing the unique circumstances surrounding by-elections, the ministry stressed the importance of providing extra financial assistance due to the absence of specific budget allocations for such events. The decision to allocate additional funds was made to ensure that the Election Commission and District Election Offices have the necessary resources to fulfill their obligations within the framework of existing legal and expenditure norms.
The additional funds will be utilized according to the directives issued by the Ministry of Finance, with a focus on supporting the Election Commission and District Election Offices in carrying out their duties effectively. This includes adhering to legal requirements and approved expenditure guidelines to maintain transparency and accountability in the electoral process.
The by-elections held on April 27 saw competitive races in Ilam Constituency-2 for House of Representatives membership and Bajhang 1 (A) for Provincial Assembly representation. Notably, candidates from the CPN-UML emerged victorious in both constituencies, with Suhang Nembang winning in Ilam and Daman Bhandari securing the seat in Bajhang.
