KATHMANDU: The Janamat Party has decided to extend its support to Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda by giving him a vote of confidence. Anita Devi Sah, the chief whip of the Janamat Party, confirmed this decision.
Prime Minister Dahal is set to seek a vote of confidence in the House of Representatives today, in accordance with Article 100, Clause 2 of the Constitution of Nepal. This clause requires the Prime Minister to seek a vote of confidence within 30 days if the party represented by the Prime Minister splits or if a coalition party withdraws its support.
This vote of confidence has become necessary after the Janata Samajwadi Party Nepal, led by former Deputy Prime Minister and Health Minister Upendra Yadav, decided to leave the government. Consequently, Prime Minister Dahal needs to reaffirm his majority in the House.
