Russia has apparently agreed to enable the safe repatriation of all Indian nationals who are allegedly fighting in the Russian Army. Prime Minister Narendra Modi brought up this important development during his recent meeting with President Vladimir Putin in Moscow. This diplomatic victory comes after PM Modi and Putin discussed bolstering bilateral ties between Russia and India in Novo-Ogaryovo.
The Indian opposition, led by Congress MP Jairam Ramesh, and other groups have expressed interest in the matter of Indians purportedly serving in the Russian Army. Ramesh expressed worries over the involvement of Indian citizens in the fighting in Ukraine, pointing out that some of them had died, and he questioned the government's response to guarantee their safe return in the face of an increasingly dire situation.
During their conversation, Modi and Putin also discussed the situation in Ukraine, and they both agreed that using military force alone would not be sufficient to end the war. Both presidents emphasized the value of diplomatic efforts and conversation in addressing the issue, indicating that India is in line with international demands for nonviolent negotiations.
In the context of global geopolitical developments and regional problems, Modi and Putin's meetings are viewed as essential in expanding India-Russia strategic alliance. The results of their meetings are likely to strengthen the two countries' longtime friendship and collaboration in a variety of areas, including defense and diplomatic relations.
