Representatives from various emigrant associations recently met with Portuguese President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, urging him to revise the country's immigration policy. The delegation, led by Timoteo Macedo of the Emigrants' Solidarity Association, included Raj Kumar Thapa from the NRNA coordination council. They informed President de Sousa that the recent policy changes would create difficulties for migrants.
Thapa highlighted that millions of emigrants were negatively impacted by the new policy, prompting the delegation to request that the President refrain from further tightening immigration regulations.
President de Sousa expressed interest in the issue, acknowledging that his attention had been drawn to the concerns. A memorandum signed by representatives from 51 migrant associations was submitted to emphasize the widespread discontent with the policy changes.
