KATHMANDU: The Embassy of Nepal in Kuala Lumpur celebrated the 2568th Buddha Jayanti/Wesak Day at Jatan Vivekananda, Kuala Lumpur, in collaboration with the Non-Resident Nepali Association, Malaysia. Ambassador Dilli Raj Poudel, Most Venerable Datuk K Sri Dhammaratana Nayaka Maha Thera, and Binod Thapa, president of the Non-Resident Nepali Association, Malaysia, inaugurated the event bylighting a lamp.
During the ceremony, the Most Venerable Datuk K Sri Dhammaratana Nayaka Maha Thera, Buddhist Chief High Priest of Malaysia, led a Metta Bhavana (Maitri Bhavana) meditation session and delivered a sermon on the significance of Buddha Jayanti/Wesak Day. Additionally, Acharya Khenpo Karma Rigzin and his disciples from the Royal White Monastery Kathmandu conducted a Shanti puja.
The event also featured a video presentation on Lumbini, the birthplace of Lord Buddha, emphasizing its historical importance. Ambassador Poudel expressed gratitude and pride in Lumbini's recognition as a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1997. He reaffirmed the Government of Nepal's commitment to the development and preservation of Lumbini and its cultural and archaeological treasures, highlighting the implementation of the Lumbini Master Plan as a national priority.
The celebration showcased Nepal's cultural diversity through performances by Nepali artists representing Tharu, Gurung, Tamang, and Magar communities. Notably, Nepali singer Dhiraj Rai entertained the audience with his performance. Over 300 participants, including diplomats, representatives of private sector apex bodies, and members of the Nepali community, attended the event, underscoring the significance of the occasion.
