KATHMANDU: The Ministry of Education, Science, and Technology has formally requested the Election Commission (EC) to provide detailed information on the work execution committees of political parties. This request entails comprehensive data on the office-bearers of central, provincial, and district-level committees affiliated with political parties. The purpose of obtaining this information is to identify educators affiliated with political parties and take necessary action against them.
Sumana Shrestha, representing the Secretariat of the Minister for Education, Science, and Technology, confirmed that the Ministry seeks to cross-verify the details received from the EC with its existing database of teachers and employees. Minister Shrestha has warned of legal measures against educators found holding positions within political parties' work execution committees.
There have been numerous complaints alleging the involvement of teachers and staff members from community schools in political parties, serving in various capacities within their work execution committees and participating as delegates in party conventions. In response, the Ministry issued a circular to district-based education development and coordination units instructing them to take appropriate action against such individuals.
Certain district units have already begun implementing measures as per the circular's instructions. Additionally, ministerial decisions have been made to enforce the removal of teachers holding positions within political parties' work execution committees, aligning with existing laws and court rulings. The Ministry remains committed to addressing complaints of a similar nature and taking necessary action to uphold the integrity of the education system.
