KATHMANDU: Suhang Nemwang, representing the CPN-UML, has emerged victorious in the by-election for the House of Representatives seat in Ilam Constituency No. 2, securing a decisive win over his nearest competitor, Nepali Congress candidate Dambar Khadka, with a substantial margin of 5,830 votes.

Nemwang secured an impressive victory by garnering 27,772 votes, while Khadka trailed behind with 21,942 votes. Independent candidate Dakendra Thegim received 11,457 votes, while Milan Limbu, formerly associated with the Maoist Center and now representing the Rastriya Swatantra Party, obtained 5,050 votes.

This triumph not only solidifies Suhang Nemwang's political standing but also continues the political legacy of the Nemwang family, as his father, Subash Nemwang, previously held the same seat in the House of Representatives. The by-election was necessitated by the unfortunate passing of Subash Nemwang last year, prompting the need to fill the vacant seat.

In a separate by-election, CPN-UML candidate Daman Bahadur Bhandari secured victory in Bajhang (1) as a member of the Provincial Assembly, marking another electoral success for the party.
