It has been decided to delay the Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation (BIMSTEC) meeting that was initially set for September 3–4. Due to technical difficulties in creating the new Cabinet, Thai Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra chose to postpone the meeting. Following recent political turmoil in Thailand, where the Constitutional Court dismissed Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin for unethical behavior, this ruling was made. Later on, Shinawatra was chosen to serve as the new prime minister.

The BIMSTEC, a regional organization linking South Asia and Southeast Asia, was set to be chaired by Thailand, which is currently leading the group. The postponement was confirmed following a meeting between Thailand's Caretaker Foreign Minister Maris Sagiamsongsa and Prime Minister Shinawatra.

Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli of Nepal was previously scheduled to attend the summit. The postponement reflects the current political uncertainties in Thailand, impacting the timely organization of the regional meeting.
