NIC Asia Bank launches new Mastercard issuance service to enhance payment system

KATHMANDU: NIC Asia Bank has launched a new Mastercard issuance service to enhance its payment system. The service was introduced in Pokhara on Sunday, allowing customers to obtain Mastercards with advanced EMV Chip and Contactless technology from any branch of the bank. These cards may be used for ATM withdrawals in Nepal, India, and Bhutan, as well as POS and e-commerce transactions.


The bank emphasizes that they were dedicated to a dynamic, digital-first strategy and that, through its partnership with Mastercard, it hopes to improve the banking industry in Nepal. Previously, NIC Asia provided card services through VISA.


NIC Asia Bank operates 360 branch offices and 670 ATMs, expanding into rural and underserved areas. It serves around 25 percent of the active population aged 20-50 in Nepal. The bank has significantly contributed to the nation's economy, paying over Rs 23.7 billion in revenue since its inception, with Rs 3.61 billion paid in the last fiscal year alone.
