KATHMANDU: The Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) saw a notable decline of 145.05 points the day before, but it recovered sharply on Wednesday, gaining 108.35 points. In the first six minutes, the market rose from 2,651.32 points at opening to 2,711.14 points. But in the next seven minutes, it fell eighty points, and then it continued to rise steadily for the rest of the trading day, closing at 2,759.67 points.
The sensitive index, reflecting the performance of 'A' class companies, also saw an increase of 18.90 points. The daily turnover decreased to Rs 17.95 billion from the record high of Rs 23.71 billion on Tuesday. All 13 market groups experienced gains, with the life insurance index seeing the largest rise of 510.98 points. Ten groups posted three-digit increases in their indices.
Out of 242 companies traded, 239 saw their stock values increase while only three experienced declines. Himalayan Reinsurance Limited led in turnover with shares worth Rs 1.53 billion. Notable gainers included Bottlers Nepal (Balaju) Limited, Goodwill Finance, Samriddhi Finance Company, Progressive Finance, Nepal Reinsurance Company, Mailung Khola Jal Vidhyut Company, Dolti Power Company, City Hotel Limited, and Himalayan Reinsurance Limited, each adding 10 percent to their market values. Conversely, Sanima Bank Limited Debenture recorded the largest loss.
