KATHMANDU: External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar contested Nepal's decision to introduce a new Rs 100 currency note featuring disputed Indian territories, stating that India's position on the matter is very clear. He emphasized that while discussions on boundary issues were ongoing between both countries, Nepal's unilateral actions would not alter the prevailing situation on the ground, as reported by India's Economic Times.
Expressing his views on Nepal's decision, Jaishankar highlighted that the boundary matters were being addressed through established channels of dialogue. However, Nepal's unilateral steps have disrupted this process. He reiterated that such actions by Nepal would not impact the existing situation between the two nations or change the ground reality.
Nepal's cabinet, in a meeting on Friday, resolved to include a new political map of Nepal on the 100 rupee banknotes, incorporating disputed territories such as Lipulekh, Limpiyadhura, and Kalapani as part of its sovereign territory. This decision by Nepal has stirred controversy and sparked discussions regarding the ongoing boundary disputes between the two neighboring countries.
