KATHMANDU: The Department of Commerce, Supplies, and Consumer Protection, a division of the Ministry of Industry, Commerce, and Supplies, has requested proposals from companies interested in importing 19,000 tons of sugar from India in order to meet the increased demand for the upcoming festival season. Businesses have five days to submit their concepts if they're interested. A minimum quota of 2,600 tons will be allotted to each authorized enterprise. Applications will still be subject to the minimum quota even if the overall quantity is exceeded.

The department has set a deadline of September 30 for the importation of sugar, in line with the quota established by India. If companies fail to import the sugar within one month of receiving their permit, it will be revoked. Companies unable to meet the import requirements must inform the department within 15 days.

Priority will be given to companies that submit their bids first if the number of applications surpasses the available quota. Imported sugar must be sold at prices determined by the Salt Trading Corporation. Companies must also submit weekly reports detailing the quantity, price, quality, and sales of the sugar to ensure compliance with government standards.
